"CHILDREN HAVE RIGHTS TOO"
AFRICEF's Beneficiaries

The situation in Zimbabwe:

  • Between 2002 and 2006, the population is estimated to have decreased by four million people. Infant mortality has doubled since 1990.
  • Average life expectancy for women, who are particularly affected by Zimbabwe's AIDS epidemic, is 34 - the lowest anywhere in the world. Officials from the World Health Organisation have admitted that since this figure is based on data collected two years ago, the real number may be as low as 30.
  • Zimbabwe has a higher number of orphans, in proportion to its population, than any other country in the world, according to UNICEF. Most of these cases are a result of parents dying from AIDS.

AFRICEF Beneficiaries
AFRICEF aspires to carry out development that is rooted in the interests, hearts and minds of the OVC in Zimbabwe and Africa in order to enhance their lives. this is the backbone of AFRICEF's work. it is founded on the Humanitarian Laws that stipulate that "Children have Rights". According to the international Bill of Human Rights Article 25,

"Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the Health and well being of Himself and his family; including food, clothing, housing, and medical care and neccessary social services and the right to security in the event of sickness and other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his / her control"- Universal Decleration of Human Rights

AFRICEF Beneficiaries
Our main targets beneficiaries are the disadvantaged children in Zimbabwe, and Africa as a whole. What we define as "disadvantaged" are those children who are affected or infected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Some are affected as they are orphaned but are not HIV positive.

     Our Targeting Criteria
AFRICEF's beneficiaries fall within the following criteria:

  • Chronically ill - headed households
  • Child headed households
  • Female headed households
  • Disabled - headed households
  • Large households caring for orphans or neglected children

All of the above criteria mean that the beneficiaries have no means of support whatsoever.
Presently AFRICEF has a total of 134 beneficiaries (children) of which 10 of them are living with HIV. However there are 66 indirect beneficiaries who are the parents children of vulnerable children.

Africa Children's Fund realises the importance of education in the life of every child. It is with this in mind that we strive to empower disadvantaged children in Africa, mainly HIV/AIDS orphans through education.
